The Postalm is the biggest alpine pasture area Austrias.
One of the most asked questions is where the name Postalm comes from. As Bad Ischl was the emperor summer residence, there was also an important post place with a lot of post coaches and a lot of horses. In summer some horses were brought to the alpine pasture for relaxing and so the name Postalm was created. Today the whole area which includes a lot of alpine pastures like Lienbachalm, Einbergalm, Wiesleralm, Thoralm, Pitschenbergalm etc. are called Postalm. A lot of different hiking trails are guided through this extensive area. Open huts invite tired hikers to a proper snack with cheese, bacon and fresh milked milk.
